This prestigious event was hosted and co-organized by Paris Lodron University of Salzburg, showcasing the university's commitment to advancing public opinion research. The conference was hosted by the Department of Sociology and Social Geography, with leadership provided by the Local Conference Chair, Prof. Wolfgang Aschauer, and the WAPOR Conference Chair, Prof. Holli Semetko from Emory University, USA. The Survey Centre in conjunction with the University of Michigan Survey Research Center from February 24 to 27, 2020, held a four-day “Qualitative Interviewing workshop” dedicated to aspects of conducting cognitive interview and focus groups. The workshop was led by Julie de Jong, survey methodologist at the University of Michigan's Institute for Social Research, which is one of the world's best centers specializing in this field. During the seminar, the specifics of conducting qualitative interview by various methods (cognitive interviews, focus groups, semi-structured surveys) were discussed in detail, including the development of a research design, scenario, and all organizational work.
On May 16, 2019, the Survey Center organized a lecture by Dr. Kai Ruggeri “Behavioral insights for population well-being in Kazakhstan: New approaches to evidence-based policy” for Nazarbayev University community. Dr. Kai Ruggeri is the Assistant Professor at Columbia and Senior Fellow at Cambridge. Dr. Ruggeri presented the main results of research conducted in the USA, Serbia, Italy and Kazakhstan, the main idea of which was to validate interventions from experimental behavioral sciences to macro-level issues identified from large-scale data sources.   From April 15 to 19, 2019, employees of the Survey Centre took part in the training “Conducting surveys by telephone and web survey modes”, hosted by the International Unit of the Survey Research Center, University of Michigan. The University of Michigan Survey Research Center is part of the Institute for Social Research (ISR), which was established in 1949 and is the world's largest organization on conducting research in the field of social sciences. Assylan Akimbayev, a senior researcher at the Survey Centre, February 10-12, took part in the World Government Summit on “Shaping the future government”. This year, the annual government summit brought together more than 4,000 participants from 140 countries, including heads of state, ministers and business leaders, as well as senior representatives from 30 international organizations. The summit participants for three days exchanged experiences in the provision of public services, government and innovation, and spoke about their vision of the government of the future. The research team of the Survey Centre participated in OECD’s sixth World Forum «The Future of Well-being» from November 27 to 29, held in Incheon, South Korea. The event, organized by the OECD in collaboration with the Statistics Office of Korea, attracted more than 3,000 participants from 102 countries. The main guests of the forum were world-famous economists Joseph Stiglitz, Jean-Paul Fitoussi, Jeffrey Sachs, as well as Princess of the Netherlands Petra Laurentien Brinkhorst.
